Remembrance Day and the Home Front

Lest we forget the price that was paid for our freedom.

O' Canada

Red poppies already adorn many a chest and collar on each side of the border as a lead up to Monday when the U.S. marks Veteran’s Day and Canada observes Remembrance Day.   Both occasions mark and honor the difficult sacrifices made by our respective veterans in service to their country.  These vintage wartime posters from World War I remind us that the reach and privations of the war that prompted the first Remembrance Day extended, as most wars do, to the home front as well.

Yoh! WTF? Bali expands poverty eradication program | The Jakarta Post

Bali expands poverty eradication program | The Jakarta Post.

You know with all the talk about billions of dollars being wasted, I wondered how other parts of the world viewed money. So here is the province of Bali and what are they talking about? Eradicating poverty! Wait. What? Yoh! WTF!

Hey, I know what you’re saying. Canada is a first world country – there’s no poverty in Canada. People get free healthcare for crying out loud! I beg to differ. In fact so does the group Canada Without Poverty. Check out their website here.

I guess I am just trying to draw the contrast between 1st world and 3rd world countries and how they think. We talk about 1 billion dollars being wasted here or 100 million being lost there but unless we start to realize the social, economic and personal impact caused by that it does not hit home. Bali is spending 1 billion to try and eradicate poverty. In Ontario, the Liberals spent 1 billion on nothing.

Yoh! WTF? Canadian pensions: should we be forced to save? – CBC News

Yoh! WTF? Wait, what? The government is suggesting that we be forced to save – hey here’s a thought why don’t they be forced to stop over taxing us? Or why don’t they be forced to stop wasting billions of dollars with NOTHING to show for it? Or why don’t we force them to actually be accountable for the bullshit decisions they make that costs hard working taxpayers money?
